Ellie Baskerville has been a makeup artist for 18 years and Sue Bardwell is a fine artist who found herself working with the body as a canvas about 10 years ago. Although successful in their respective careers, collaboration yields enhancement for them as they inspire one another and deliver their most creative projects.
Between them Ellie and Sue have worked with various brands including SKY, BBC, Honda and L’Oréal. They have demonstrated at the Skills Show, AOC and IMATS and their work has been published in Cotswold Life and featured in many exhibitions in the south west.
They are both passionate about the makeup industry and work in education, sharing their knowledge with the artists of the future. They also run an alternative life drawing event that gives artists the opportunity to draw their creatively painted and styled models.
Ellie and Sue love the research behind the design and explore many concepts and themes. They enjoy being experimental, love texture and the combination of using all their skills to bring together something original and beautiful. They advocate recycling and working economically and believe the only limitation is your imagination. For them, makeup is art.
What will they be creating on the day? Ellis says:
“It all started with a mock Georgian lampshade, which inspired original artwork by Sue Bardwell – the final pic shown – that we have now developed into our bodypainting for the event.
“Our piece is inspired by the freedom craved by the women of the Georgian period. It will have a modern edge, feature lines and patterns inspired by flowers, exotic birds and architecture of the period, embellished bald cap, handmade wig, texture, original costume and some surprising prosthetics.”
