Although Kieran wanted to make something like this ever since he saw Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal as a child, he says it’s taken him until his late 30s to learn enough techniques, as well as to afford the tools and materials, to finally bring something that he’s been thinking about all these years to life. He applauds all the many wonderful and imaginative artists whose work have gone before and inspired him, leaving Kieran with one thing to declare: “Creature love all round!”

Fabienne Bennington

Fabienne recently completed Falmouth University’s MA Prosthetic Effects programme delivered by Neill Gorton, where she achieved multiple Distinction grades. Fabienne graduated with a passion for realism and the developed skill set necessary to take a project from concept to completion.

This project was inspired by the TV show Vikings. To create the severed head Fabienne took a 3D scan of her model and cleaned it up using Zbrush, then 3D printed it in filament. The printed head was then covered with a thin layer of Chavant clay and detailed skin texture was sculpted in. A fibreglass mould was then created, and the head run in platinum silicone and filled with soft foam. The piece was then finished by painting realistically and hair punching using a combination of yak, fox, human and synthetic hair. For display the head is impaled on a wooden dowel affixed to a stable square base.
